The Waitaki District Council has notified its Proposed District Plan (PDP), setting in motion a comprehensive overhaul of the district’s planning framework. This marks a significant departure from the current Operative District Plan (ODP), and many property owners are likely to be affected.
A number of rules now have immediate legal effect from the date of the PDP’s notification. Landowners should ensure they understand which rules apply to their land and seek advice as early as possible.
Key changes include:
- New zoning changes and provisions that may alter what can be done on your land
- New and updated Outstanding Natural Feature and Landscape overlay mapping
- Identification of Sites and Areas of Significance to Māori, which may require additional planning considerations
This is an important opportunity to participate in the review process and to pursue long-term goals or protect future development potential. The Proposed District Plan will influence how land is used and developed for potentially the next decade or longer.
Submissions close on 9 May 2025.
