On 12 February 2025 the Council-appointed Commissioners declined an application to construct a McDonalds restaurant at the base of Mt Iron, Wānaka.
TODD & WALKER Law, through Resource Management Senior Associate, Rosie Hill was the only lawyer representing opposing submitters and acted for several submitters in opposition to the application. Legal submissions and evidence called were instrumental in presenting the opposition’s views, which resulted in a win for the submitters and the overwhelming majority of the community.
A critical aspect of the hearing was illustrating the effects the proposal would have on the environment and amenity of the area, the Mt Iron ONF values, and the previous Environment Court decisions on the Site providing for open space and landscaping areas. The hearing also involved several technical aspects of resource management law. Around 90% of submissions were in opposition to the proposal..
